Discussion starter · #1 · sep 23, 2006. Hi all, new member buying an fj shortly. You can get an adapter for a 4 pin to a 7 pin. Uhaul probably has them.
7 pin gives you electric brakes and auxillary power to charge a battery on a trailer. A plug in t adapter is available to give you just the 4 pin connector. You may be fine with that. Consider buying the oem hitch (perfect fit, well made), and check for what realys you will need to add to the truck. The dealer should be able to give correct answer. Then a 4 wire subharness goes from there out to the rear hitch if you have the factory tow hitch. It's the subharness that's the problem. One can use the kia 7 pin subharness. If you want these to be powered, then you are better off with a 7 pin connector.
